Both print full-colour artwork with no setup fees — but DTG ink soaks into the garment while DTF bonds a film on top. That one difference changes everything about fabric choice, durability and vibrancy.
DTG (Direct-to-Garment) gives the softest, most 'part-of-the-shirt' feel and is unbeatable on 100% cotton for photographic art. DTF (Direct-to-Film) prints on almost any fabric — cotton, polyester, nylon, blends — stays vivid on dark garments, and travels better for bulk. For a cotton retail tee we lean DTG; for teamwear, poly performance gear or mixed fabrics, DTF wins.

DTF holds a slight edge — a properly cured DTF transfer lasts 40-60 wash cycles versus roughly 30-50 for DTG, and DTF resists cracking on stretch fabrics better. For everyday-wear cotton tees both are excellent; for performance/poly garments DTF is clearly the more durable choice.
DTG. Because the ink is absorbed directly into the cotton fibres, there's no film sitting on top, so a DTG print feels like part of the shirt. DTF is still soft but has a barely-perceptible raised edge on some designs.
Not reliably. DTG is optimised for 100% cotton — polyester and performance fabrics don't absorb the water-based ink well and pretreatment can discolour them. For anything with polyester content we recommend DTF.
DTF. Its opaque white underbase is laid down in the same pass as the colour, so prints stay vivid on black and dark garments. DTG can print darks with a white underbase too, but colours read slightly softer than DTF.
